First Day of School

So after a pancake breakfast (in the shape of a bear paw and bee if you can't tell--for Henry's "Bear" class and Drew's "Bee" class), the two hit the school yard this week. Henry is in T, Th preschool and Andrew goes on Thursdays. Andrew said he was not excited to go, but Henry (like any good older brother) convinced him that he was going to have fun. This is their conversation:

A: I am NOT going to have fun in the bee class.

H: Oh, Andrew, you are really, REALLY, going to like school. They have puzzles there, and a playground, and snacks, and Trey is in your class! (Trey was in Henry's class last year--and is not in Andrew's class)...

So when we got to school, Andrew went in his class like a pro...no tears, no looking back at me, just went right in! His teachers said he did great. Henry also had a great first week of school. He has four good friends from last year's class in his class this year, so it has been a pretty easy transition from "frogs" to "bears." Yeah!! :)

Labor Day Campout 2010

So it took us longer to decide where to go for Labor Day weekend than we actually spent at the final destination, but we found a camping resort we'd love to go back to some day!

We have been camping the last few Labor Day weekends. In '08 Andrew was crawling and not sleeping through the night and we established the "no camping with a crawler rule" (too dirty--they are constantly dirty and putting dirty hands in their mouths) AND the "no camping with a baby who doesn't sleep through the night rule" (the crying carries too well through tent walls). Well, this year we did not have a crawler (although he's getting close), and we thought we could get around our other rule if we got a "cabin." After night one with Kyle's crying waking up Andrew, 4 of the 5 of us did not sleep well. Although Henry wanted us to stay the night again (he was the deep sleeper), we enjoyed the resort's shuffleboard, pool, mini-golf, and fishing and then headed home to set up a tent for the 3 "big boys" in our backyard.

Here are some of my favorite pics from August. Somehow I am missing all of our Triathlon/Baptism weekend pics...which I'm sure would be added to the mix! This first pic of Henry is fun because we have one of Mike doing the same thing when he was a boy. Henry climbs on EVERYTHING. Here Henry is feeding Kyle. Kyle LOVED it. Today on the way to school somehow Henry and I got on the topic of hamburgers coming from cows. He was shocked by this, so I told him, that actually all of our "meat" comes from animals. So I asked, "What animal do you think chicken comes from?" His reply? "Pigs." We tried a few more and he missed the turkey answer too.

So after telling Mike the story, we wondered...why do we just call "bird meat" the name of the bird it comes from whereas most other meat has a "special name" (i.e. pork, beef, venison, etc.)? Hmmm...

On Andrew's cute sayings: I remembered this one today as we replayed a "Spiderman Slap" card game. Each time he means to say "slap" he says "snap." So as we're playing he'll be arguing with Henry, "I snapped it first." He'll be "mad" but it just makes me smile. He's so cute!
