Andrew's First Day of School
Growth Spurts
As always, I have meant to write this post for a few weeks, and will likely forget most of what I had originally intended to write! But boys grow so quickly!!! So here's a run down of some of our "growing pains."
Henry
Although I am not the most fashionable of moms, I do usually try to match my clothes. This has become an area of frustration for me & Henry. I am pretty good about letting him just wear whatever he picks out...(except today -- his clothes were too small). BUT, I need to mention that the picture of Henry's first day of Kindergarten in my last post shows him wearing black shorts. Please note that these shorts are reversible...red on the inside. We had a disagreement on the night before school started b/c he wanted to wear them with the red side out (with the same yellow/black shirt shown in the picture). I, of course, wanted the black. He argued that "people won't know who I AM..." I replied that I think they will get a good idea even if he's wearing matching clothes on the first day. :) So he went off to school with me, wearing the black side out & looking adorable. When I picked him up, red side was out. So I guess his classmates knew who he "really is" right from the start.
Henry is reading & doing math so well that his teacher sent me an e-mail telling me that she is trying to challenge him at school but he picks things up very quickly! At our "Parent Back-to-School Night" we got to sit at Henry's desk. All the kids had created a book about themselves in that first week of school, complete with a front cover, with most all featuring a quick smiley face. Henry's front cover? Wolfman. In detail.
He has continued to play soccer this fall (with Mike coaching). Henry seems to be a natural defender & instead of attacking the ball, takes a defensive route and cuts off people by running back at good angles! :) He has stopped many a goal! But then he cries about not scoring goals...:)
Andrew
Andrew started preschool yesterday which I will blog about next. But I wanted to mention that Andrew ALMOST went off the diving board at our pool...almost five times! It was so cute because he has been talking about it all summer & we were nearing the end of summer & he passed Mike's "swim test", so we said he could try. The first time up he made it to the end of the rails and then started shaking uncontrollably. Second time he made it to the end & then wanted to jump off the side. When we said "no, go off the end, you can do it!" he crawled back to the rails & got down. He told us that he thinks he just wants to jump...not do a flip. FLIP?!! :)Anyway, with Henry's encouragement & Mike's instruction to just "run to the end & jump" (with some practice on the side), Andrew attempted a third time. Again he got to the end & amidst lots of cheers from lots of cheerers, he crawled back again...As he got down he told Mike, "You know my mind? I changed it."
Andrew has been inspired by Henry's art & reading & has created some Mario/Luigi creations of his own. They have both enjoyed doing Perler beads (the ones that melt together with an iron). He has even made it to book 8 of the Easy Reader books that Henry & I learned to read on!
Kyle
Kyle is 18 months & growing into an adorable little boy/snuggler and is saying all kinds of words. He says some words so clearly! Most notably, oatmeal, trash, it's-hot (one word--sounds like issot), & no touch. He LOVES to throw stuff away, and is a good helper if you have trash. He soothes himself by sucking his thumb & rubbing his hair...but that has led to sucking his thumb & rubbing anyone's hair...especially Andrew's...who seems to hate it when Kyle touches his head. :) I was hoping the morning time with Henry at school would encourage the K-A friendship, but I think it's too soon to tell on that one. Kyle also enjoys getting horsey rides from his brothers. This has led to him climbing on the back of anyone who happens to be on their stomach on the floor...including his 13 month old friend Sarah...who crawls. I watched Sarah one night & could not keep Kyle off of her! She was a trooper though!!
He can now climb up playground ladders & loves slides and swings.

Looking forward to a fun fall with these three! I am so blessed to be the mama to such smart, funny, lovable boys!!!
